Designing for the Body #2
From Stencil to Skin
In this practical demonstration, Maya Goldfinch presents her approach to translating a design onto the body with precision, adaptability, and respect for anatomy.
The session focuses on the full working process — from stencil application to freehand adjustments and into the first stages of tattooing. Participants will observe how to place and adapt a design so it flows naturally with the body, rather than sitting flat against it.
Maya will demonstrate:
- effective stencil placement
- simple and practical freehand techniques
- linework fundamentals for clean, confident execution
- approaches to shading and black packing for depth, contrast, and longevity
Throughout the session, she will explain her decision-making process, highlighting how movement, skin behavior, and body structure influence every step of the tattoo.
This class is aimed at artists who want to strengthen their technical foundation and better understand how to work with the body — from first placement to final result.
