Thaipooyam Festival

This lecture delves into the ritual practices and their meanings during the annual Thaipooyam festival of the Tamil Hindu diaspora living in Kerala, India. It illustrates the rich and varied expressions of religious devotion and self-sacrifice. Much of the material presented is from my field research with co-filmmaker Jon John in January, 2016.
